Bit & Bridle Fitting Sessions

Our Levels of Service

Full bit and bridle fitting by our trained and qualified fitter. Our practitioner, Sarah, is LANTRA qualified, and an EAPER registered consultant member. We hold full professional and public liability insurance for all of our services.

We are independent, and have access to a range of brands across a range of budgets. One advantage of this is that we carry bits and bridles of various sizes from a range of manufacturers for trial. If you enjoy just plodding, or eventing or anything in between, we can help.

Bit & Bridle Fitting Sessions
Initial (First) Session

Session Time:

Please allow around 1.5 - 2 hrs of your time in order to complete this consultation.

Options:

  • Not Applicable

Visit Pre-requisites:

  • Your horse or pony should be cleaned and brushed before our arrival. Our service does not include for this.

  • We may require to see your horse/pony being ridden during our visit. Please ensure that your own tack is available if this is the case. We will carry out a safety check of any tack you already have and are proposing to use to ride during the session.

  • Your horse or pony must be free of any injury or lameness, and in a fit state to be ridden or fitted with a bit and bridle. We may refuse to complete the consultation if we feel that the horse is in an unfit condition.

Pre-Visit Call:

We may arrange a call prior to the visit, at a mutually convenient time, to go through some initial questions in order to gain an understanding of your needs and issues. Please try to make yourself available for a call as this saves us time on the day going through paperwork which will maximise your time with trialling equipment, to ensure you get the most from your session.

Visit Plan:

  • Review background history of your Equine and any recent medical treatments along with completion of paperwork
  • Conformational/anatomical assessment of the horse's facial and oral anatomy
  • View equine being ridden (if applicable) prior to bit or bridle fitting
  • Review and trial bit and bridle options, as required
  • Discuss options and findings with the client
  • Completion of any paperwork
  • Prepare and issue a full report summarising the visit findings and recommendations - normally issued by E-mail but can be posted on request, for a small fee.

Travel:

Our standard price includes travel up to 10 miles from Mintlaw town centre (AB42 5EB). Mileage will be quoted during the initial call if applicable. Payment for this will be by separate arrangement.

NOTE:

Whilst every effort will be made to find a bit or bridle that fits and exactly meets you and your horse or pony's requirements, it must be understood that, although we carry a reasonable and increasing range of bits and bridles, we can't carry every single size/range/type of bit or bridle from all available due to the vast array available. This, coupled with the conformation of your horse, which we won't understand fully until we carry out a physical examination, may mean on occasions that we can't find an exact fit for your horse at the consultation.

In such instances, if we can source other bits to trial, we may arrange a follow-up visit. In any event, we will do all we can to advise you on something suitable whether we or you source it and will detail our findings and recommendations in the report which will be issued. We are also available to further advise, assist or support as much as we can after a session.

We respectfully request our clients understanding in these instances as we will not recommend something that doesn't fit properly, as this benefits neither you or your horse or pony.

This will be discussed with you on the pre-visit call, or feel free to contact us to discuss before you book.

Although we are able to source and supply bits and bridles, our clients are under no obligation to buy from us.
